Prospects
“Literary creativity” is regarded as the core key to the manifestation of a nation's cultural power. Although Taoyuan, as the national capital of the Republic of China (R.O.C.), started a little late in the process of literary development, it is thanks to its diverse topography, as well as the variations in the living customs of the ethnic groups that have settled here, that heterogeneous cultures have been able to converge and skillfully merge here, manifesting Taoyuan's distinctive cityscape! Over the past few hundred years, the city has continued to develop, and the stories and history of the local community have also accumulated and shaped over time. Literature should be the best place to look back at the trajectory of a city's cultural past.
For this reason, the Taoyuan Literature Museum, which is expected to be completed in 2024, not only shoulders the expectations of the general public to become a key venue for the collection, exhibition, and research of Taoyuan's century-long rich literary history and cultural stories, but also integrates the different ethnic groups, customs, and languages of the local community, as well as devotes itself to the promotion and cultivation of local literary talents, with the hope that all of Taoyuan's “local writers” will be incorporated into the spirit of the Taoyuan Literature Museum as its core members. The Taoyuan Literature Museum will become the “home” that every Taoyuan author loves and adores.
Right now, Taoyuan is not only rich in diverse literary treasures, including traditional poetry, novels, modern literature, and children's literature, waiting to be collected and preserved; the Taoyuan Literature Museum is also surrounded by a bustling populist culture and many new arts and cultural spaces, which are thriving and prospering together. Looking ahead, the Taoyuan Literature Museum will fully utilize the public spirit of the museum to establish a community cultivation mechanism by linking local cultural communities, so as to attract audiences from different levels to discuss and appreciate Taoyuan literature and to enhance the public's sense of cultural identity. In order to open the doors of the Literature Museum to more people, the museum will also plan multicultural affirmative action activities to promote the cultural proximity of various groups (e.g., physically and mentally challenged, gender issues, youth, newcomers, and aboriginals), and strive to achieve balanced development of cultural diversity.
It is expected that by strengthening the research, collection, and exhibition mechanism of local literary history, the Taoyuan Literature Museum Impression will be publicly displayed in a variety of ways. In addition, it will also reach out to campuses to conduct “Literary Roots” and plan a variety of “education and promotion activities,” including looking to the future and cultivating literary creativity. At the same time, it will cooperate with community residents, local cultural groups, and local writers to stimulate new issues in local literature and enhance the reading power of Taoyuan citizens, so as to polish the brand of Taoyuan Literature, and to become a national honor in Taiwan's literary world.
